Prague, Czech Republic – August 9th, 2024 – 11 Blocks To Go: The Bet, a "proof of concept" short film by the acclaimed writing duo Ashley Alexander and Jack Utrata, and directed by Nathaniel P. Claridad, celebrated its international debut at the renowned Pride Vision Film Festival in Prague.
The Pride Vision Film Festival is a pioneering LGBTQ+ film event dedicated to showcasing a diverse array of films while providing a vital platform for filmmakers to present their work. More than just a film festival, Pride Vision is a catalyst for change, a platform for creative expression, and a beacon of acceptance within the global LGBTQ+ community.
11 Blocks To Go: The Bet tells the story of Samantha (Alexander), a free-spirited hapless romantic, who discovers her 30-something-year-old BFF Drew (Utrata), a gay high-functioning drug-addled sex addict, hosting an orgy in lieu of honoring his personal commitments. The film also features Vietnamese actor, playwright, and West Virginia native Cody Leroy Wilson as the third-wheel "Gray." Initially conceived by Alexander and Utrata as a three-season television series, the project has already garnered significant recognition. During a U.S. tour from 2021 to 2022, the pilot script achieved considerable success, becoming a two-time finalist and three-time semi-finalist, earning five awards and 15 official selections. In 2023, the duo was honored with the Small Grants for Individual Artists from the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA). 11 Blocks features cinematography by Catalin Stelian, original music from composer Andrew Jones, and an original song from artist Violette. It is produced by Ashley Alexander, Jack Utrata, Merciful Delusions Productions and David M. Night Maire.
Following its international debut, 11 Blocks To Go: The Bet will have its U.S. national debut at the 14th annual Fabulous Independent Film Festival in Sarasota, Florida, this October. As Sarasota's only LGBTQ+ film festival, the Fabulous Independent Film Festival is a key cultural event produced by the Harvey Milk Festival, now known as the Fabulous Arts Foundation. Each screening at the festival is unique, with full-length films paired with short films, making every presentation distinct and memorable.
